When a major weekly approached RSG Systems about digitizing their archives, they wanted to be able to easily search and retrieve articles going back 50 years. They also wanted to know that their publication's archives were safe from the kinds of damage that can happen over time—protected from fire, water, and age.

RSG helped our client affordably digitize their archives, including text, photographs, audio, and video, so they could find what they need quickly, easily, and accurately. Then we showed them something else: How to turn yesterday's news into today's revenues.

RSG digitized their publications, using a combination of processes to achieve a 99.995% accuracy rate, carefully restoring faded images, and articles. We created text and PDF versions of their files as needed to preserve both the content and the layout. We converted different kinds of data, from major word processor, typesetter and document formats, and created XML structured formats. We captured their images in their required degree of resolution, and then added meta-tags so that the images could be easily searched. We also converted their video into contextually tagged MPEG files for easy management.

Digitizing and organizing their archives allowed this client to develop a new revenue model. For the first time, they were able to sell copies of documents once we set up an easy-to-use search and shopping facility. This shop allowed customers to browse 50 years worth of documents and then purchase licensed copies of the files.
